Client Reviews

What our clients say

"We had a 900 sq ft apartment in Bangsar South that felt much smaller than it should. After the Space Dialogue consultation, Yun Xiu gave us a brief that reframed how we thought about the living and dining areas entirely. The suggestions were specific and immediately useful. We went on to engage the full Design Craft service and the result is a space we are genuinely happy to be in."

"The thing I appreciated most was that nothing felt imposed. When I asked about a particular material I had seen elsewhere, the team took it seriously rather than redirecting me toward their preferred option. The final palette is one I came to genuinely — with guidance rather than instruction. The realization phase had a few coordination moments that needed attention, but they were resolved without drama."

"I have worked with two other studios before Hako. The difference in documentation quality is significant. Our contractor told us directly that the Hako specification package was the clearest he had worked from in years. That alone saved us multiple conversations and at least one expensive misunderstanding mid-build."

"We used the Space Dialogue service for a studio space before committing to a renovation budget. It gave us a realistic picture of what was achievable and what was not — which was exactly what we needed before making a decision. We decided to proceed with the full design service on the basis of that conversation."

Chow Kit, KL · January 2025

"The material choices in our dining and kitchen area have held up well through eleven months of daily use, which was our main concern after a previous renovation where surfaces looked tired within a year. The team was direct about which finishes would perform in a high-traffic area and which were better suited elsewhere."

"What surprised me was how much the written brief clarified my own thinking. I came in with a general sense of what I did not want — clinical, white, minimal in the empty sense — and through the Space Dialogue process I arrived at a clearer sense of what I did want. The brief became a reference point I kept returning to throughout the project."

Case Studies

Three projects in depth

Case Study 01 — Residential Apartment, TTDI

Challenge

A 1,200 sq ft condominium with a corridor-heavy layout that fragmented the living areas. The client had lived there for six years and found the space functional but joyless — dark despite sufficient windows, and without a clear area for relaxed gathering.

Solution

Design Craft & Documentation rearranged the central zone by removing a non-load-bearing partition and repositioning furniture to open the sightline from entry to window. Material palette shifted to warm timber tones and a clay-plaster feature wall that redirected light without adding artificial brightness.

Result

The client described the finished space as "recognizably the same flat, but one I want to come home to." Construction completed in 9 weeks, within the agreed Design Craft timeline.

"The spatial brief alone was worth the fee. Everything that followed built on it."

Case Study 02 — Photography Studio, Chow Kit

Challenge

A commercial photography studio occupying 600 sq ft of a shophouse row. The space needed to function as both a working studio and a client-facing environment, without the typical "studio grey" that felt impersonal for client meetings.

Solution

Full service engagement: Space Dialogue followed immediately by Design Craft and Realization Guidance. The design maintained neutral surfaces for photographic use while adding a warmly lit client corner — separated by a low joinery shelf that defined zones without enclosing them.

Result

Realization completed in 11 weeks. The studio owner reported that clients consistently remark on the space during sessions — an outcome that has supported the studio's positioning as a considered, design-literate operation.

"It does not look like a studio that was designed. It just looks right."

Case Study 03 — Landed Home, Damansara Heights

Challenge

A 3,000 sq ft house that had been renovated in two separate phases a decade apart, leaving the interior spatially disconnected. The ground floor in particular moved through three distinct material languages that did not speak to each other.

Solution

Design Craft provided a unifying material strategy — a consistent flooring treatment and a limited palette of wall finishes that held across all rooms — without requiring complete replacement of existing elements. Realization Guidance managed phased works to keep parts of the house habitable throughout.

Result

Construction lasted 14 weeks in two overlapping phases. The client noted a marked improvement in how the house felt to navigate — a coherence that had been absent for years. Final arrangement session completed within the agreed scope.

"For the first time in ten years, the house feels like one house."
