Methodology
How we think about interior design
Good interior design is not applied after the fact. It begins with the structure of a space — how light enters, how rooms connect, what proportions have been given and which need correcting — and builds outward from there.
We work from a method shaped by Japanese joinery: fit precisely, add only what is necessary, let the material speak. This means our interiors tend toward restraint rather than decoration, and toward durability rather than fashion.
Our three services represent three distinct phases of the design process. They can be engaged independently or in sequence — whichever suits your situation and pace.

Professional Standards
What we maintain across every project
Privacy & confidentiality
Project details and site photography are shared only with those directly involved. We do not publish client spaces without written consent.
Documented decisions
Every agreed decision is recorded in writing. Site visit summaries, revision notes, and specification sign-offs are provided as a matter of course.
Buildable specifications
Our documentation is written for contractors, not clients. This distinction matters — it reduces misinterpretation on site and protects the quality of the finished work.
Responsible material sourcing
We prefer local and regional suppliers where quality permits. Materials are specified for durability and climate suitability, not trend relevance.
Fixed, transparent fees
Our service fees are stated in full before work begins. There are no variable charges for routine communication or minor updates within agreed scope.
MIID registered studio
Hako Design is registered with the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers, maintaining professional standards appropriate to the local market.
